While Teflon skid plates and low-friction, high-tensile strength cable sound like technology fit for NASA, they’re actually the guts of the Sidewinder, along with a half dozen other hi-tech features that make this fully loaded, retractable tether system more than meets the eye. The Sidewinder is engineered and constructed with materials specifically designed for convenient access and maintaining a silent presence in the woods. Keep everything from rangefinders to radios safe, secure and always within easy reach.
USING THE SIDEWINDER
The Sidewinder is designed to be used with a variety of devices, including laser range finders, GPS units, cell phones, PDAs, radios, bear or pepper spray, water bottles, and more. The Sidewinder can be attached to belts, shoulder straps on packs, traditional binocular straps, or it can be attached to your arm or leg using the included Velcro strap. The location depends on user preference and the device being used.
INSTALLING YOUR DEVICE TO THE SIDEWINDER
Remove the Sidewinder from the package. In addition to the Sidewinder, the package contains an alcohol swab, Velcro strap, heat shrink band, and a safety lanyard.
Step 1: Remove the tether pad from the device by turning the slotted screw with a coin (a nickel works best). Pull on the tether pad to separate it from the slotted screw assembly.- Step 2: Determine the optimum location for the tether pad. Without removing the self adhesive backing from the tether pad, place it on the back of your device. The tether pad should be located as high as possible on the device, and located on a face that will make the operative buttons easy to use in the field.
- Ensure that the location you choose is near the centerline of the device, and that when the heat shrink band is put in place on the tether pad, all buttons remain operative.
- Also take into consideration right or left handed operations.
- Mark the location of the tether pad with a pencil.
- Step 3: Apply the tether pad. Clean the device with the included alcohol swab in the area marked in Step 2. Allow the alcohol to completely evaporate before proceeding. When the device is dry, peel the backing from the adhesive foam on the tether pad and carefully stick the tether pad onto the device. Hold down tightly for 30 seconds to ensure adequate adhesion.
Step 4: Install the heat shrink band. Take the heat shrink band and place it over the device and over the tether pad so the band goes in the recess on the tether pad making sure the Sidewinder logo does not impair function or operation of the device. a. Lightly heat the band with a heat shrink gun or hair dryer. This will cause the band to shrink down tightly on the tether pad and the device.- Step 5: For extra protection against potential loss of the device, we recommend tying the corner of the tether pad to a secure attachment on the device with the included lanyard cord. In the event that the adhesive pad and shrink band are ripped from the device, the lanyard cord will prevent the device from being lost.
- Step 6: Reinstall the tether pad to the post. Place the tether pad insert into the hole on the post and tighten with the coin slot. Do not over tighten. The post should be free to rotate, but tight enough not to rattle.
